National Police officers in the city of Elche have arrested a 63-year-old man, allegedly for charges of slander, libel, and damage. The suspect had spray-painted derogatory messages in numerous locations throughout the city for several months.
After the manager of the affected company lodged numerous complaints, the police investigation started. The manager observed a plethora of graffiti directed at his business in various areas of Elche over the course of several months.
Officers discovered that the alleged graffiti artist selected unoccupied locations, far from the city, and at night to evade witnesses, thereby impeding police work.
Officers were able to identify the perpetrator after conducting various investigations into the affected consultancy. He was a man who owned a business in the same industry and had previously collaborated with one of the employees.
Upon their apprehension, the Elche Local Police’s Graphics and Vandalism Division conducted a study that enabled officers to establish a connection between all of the graffiti and a single individual. The study concluded that all of the graffiti had been created by the same individual.
In addition to his involvement in the crimes of libel and slander for the defamatory messages, the detainee was also charged with damages for causing economic damage to the affected company of over 1,000 euros.
