The MonĂ³var City Council will submit its first LGBTQ+ Plan on May 23rd. The document, passed by the municipal plenary session on May 15th, will focus on eradicating discrimination and promoting equality. A promotional movie starring city inhabitants will also be shown.
The Department of Equality and Inclusive Policies has draughted an institutional text with the goal of building a municipality with a more equitable and inclusive society. It will do so through the “First Municipal LGTBIQ+ Plan of MonĂ³var,” which seeks to promote equality and inclusion.
The plan, which has already been adopted by the plenary session and is presently being discussed by the public, is organised around strategic themes, such as human rights protection, health promotion, and social and cultural involvement. Each of these lines offers concrete measures addressing the concerns of LGBTQI+ individuals.
Some of these efforts include providing LGBTQI+ families with assistance and resources for family reconciliation and well-being, developing training and professional development programmes, encouraging inclusion in the labour market, and developing inclusion awareness campaigns for businesses.
Irina Nohales, Councillor for Equality and Inclusive Policies, called the ratification of the plan “historic.” “It is an essential tool to guarantee the rights and visibility of all people regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression,” she said.
The plan will be presented on May 23rd at 7:00 p.m. at the Kursaal Fleta Centre as part of the Department of Equality and Inclusive Policies’ June programme, which will focus on boosting LGBTQ+ community awareness.

The city council will hold five events between May 23rd and June 29th. These events will be accessible to all audiences. One of them is the “Stories for Equality” storytelling session, which will take place on May 28 at 6:00 p.m. in the Children’s Library. Alexandre Morera (Va de Cuentos) will organise the event.
The show ‘Riure’s Fora de l’armari’ will also take place, with stand-up comedy, music, and cabaret performances by Valencian artists. The event is scheduled for June 13 (8:00 p.m.) at the MonĂ³var Cultural Centre.
An institutional manifesto in support of the LGBTQ+ community will be read on Friday, June 27th. It will begin at 12:00 p.m. in the plenary hall of City Hall.
The programme will finish on Sunday, June 29th, with a 6:00 PM screening of the film “I’m Loving You Madly” at the CIJ Punto Joven (Youth Centre for Cultural Studies). It is a dramatic film about the LGBTI movement in Seville in the 1970s.
The Department of Equality and Inclusive Policies organises all activities in partnership with the Ministry of Equality.
