The National Police saved the life of a 48-year-old woman in Alicante by preventing her from driving down a cliff near a popular beach. Officers from the Provincial Citizen Security Brigade’s Citizen Assistance Group (GAC) carried out the intervention. An urgent 112 call warned of the woman’s potential to purposely injure herself.
The woman’s son reported the incident and supplied all of the data about the vehicle his mother was driving, prompting a swift search. During a search, a patrol car found a car, still with the engine running, near a cliff.
The police approached and noticed a clearly distressed woman inside the vehicle. Upon witnessing the vehicle over the edge, they immediately opened the front left door, risking their lives. They tried to pull her out, despite her bodily reluctance. Despite her shouts, they were able to pull her from the car while it was still going towards the edge.

Seconds later, the vehicle became trapped in the sand, its door and underbody impeding its descent into the sea, and one of its front wheels dangling in the air.
Inside, they found a handwritten farewell letter, suggesting that she had sent his son a final message before the attempted murder.
Once removed from the danger zone, the woman was treated by medical personnel and sent to a hospital, where she was kept under medical monitoring.
