The Benidorm Local Police and the National Police staged a mock lockdown of the city. Both forces have worked together to carry out the plan for “Operation Trueno (Thunder,)” which entails establishing a lockdown or cage for a simulated criminal act in which convicts attempt to flee the city.
In this simulation, in addition to closing all strategic entry and departure points to Benidorm, instructions for force mobilisation, code names, call signs, and response time measurement were adopted.
To make the drill as realistic as possible, the police officers involved were ignorant of what was about to happen, so they were confronted with an unexpected situation.
The coordinated mobilisation of resources has been critical in meeting the expectations of the leadership of both police forces.
Benidorm Local Police Chief Superintendent Luis MartÃn Arévalo praised the simulation as “effective in a real-life situation” and stated that “the results are excellent thanks to the coordination between both forces.”
