The National Police discovered seven bottles of high-value whisky stolen in Malaga, one of which was worth €80,000. The National Police have arrested a 47-year-old man and woman, who are close relatives of the drinks’ owner, as suspected thieves. The investigation began after the victim reported the missing of a full pallet from his father’s warehouse, which showed no traces of forced entry.
The stolen batch included 23 cases of whisky from various brands, valued at more than €170,000. The agents’ surveillance enabled them to track the sale of certain bottles via digital networks. The complainant recognised some objects on these platforms, as indicated by their serial numbers and limited-edition status, which helped her locate them.
During the police operation, numerous consumers claimed to have purchased the bottles without understanding their illegal origin. Some described themselves as collectors, while others as facilitators looking to market the expensive beverages for a large profit. The situation illustrates the ease with which such special products can circulate in the secondary market without strict regulations.
The examination also discovered that at least one of the bottles was shipped to Germany, while others were sold for less than their true value to expedite resale. The recovery of the seven bottles accounts for a considerable chunk of the shipment’s commercial value, which was €170,000. The Málaga Western District Police Station, in partnership with the complainant, played an important role in resolving this domestic misappropriation case.
