The car fled down Calle La Mar in the early hour of Sunday morning, May 25th, leaving damage dispersed around the neighbourhood, and was discovered owing to commercial cameras.
The driver, who was travelling with another passenger, declined to undergo the breathalyser test.
According to the Dénia City Council, a vehicle entered the castle tunnel around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday via Ronda de Muralles, tearing out one of its doors. After passing through the tunnel, it exited out the opposite tunnel door leading to Calle La Mar. It jumped the steps of Plaza del Consell. He vanished into the darkness.
According to Local Police, he may have turned onto Calle Diana from La Mar and continued it all the way to Montgó. Another possibility is that as he reached the roundabout, he entered this plaza, which is also a pedestrian area.
The vehicle deposited debris across the tunnel. The Local Police responded swiftly, patrolling Dénia’s city centre in the middle of the night in search of the car. Initially, they were unsuccessful.
The officers then arranged to inspect the cameras of nearby businesses. And it did have beneficial results: at an undefined period, the vehicle and its two occupants were identified.
The municipal council also stated that a report has been prepared on the driver’s refusal to take a breathalyser test. Once the most pressing issues have been handled, the police will continue to examine the cameras to identify the exact route the car took in escaping from the tunnel and Plaza del Consell.
