Concha Sala, Councillor for Public Lighting at Torrevieja City Council, announces that the 1st School Drawing Competition for the Design of Christmas Ornamental Lighting Elements for the 2025-2026 period is now accepting entries. The competition aims to encourage artistic innovation among local schools by designing Christmas ornamental lighting features for Torrevieja’s streets.
The contest will be divided into two categories.
- Centres for pupils with special educational needs.
- Schools for pupils in the first and second grades of primary school. Public, state-subsidised, and private schools in the municipality of Torrevieja that provide elementary education, or similar age levels in the case of foreign schools, and are accredited in accordance with current legislation are eligible to compete.
The design elements must depict an idea, a figure, a character, an emotion, or an element associated with Christmas in Torrevieja. It does not have to be complicated or technically perfect. What counts is the idea and creativity in conveying a figure or emotion associated with the city during the Christmas season.
Registration Deadline
The deadline for registration and submission of entries is next Monday, June 2nd. Applications for participation will be formalised by submitting the standardised form for the Early Childhood Competition (2025), which is available on the Torrevieja City Council’s website (https://torrevieja.sedelectronica.es/info.0).
An application for participation must include:
-Take a high-quality snapshot of the planned drawing. The draft must be supplied digitally, in either JPG or PDF format.
-Name and surname of the person submitting the sketch, as well as educational centre.
-An affidavit from the school declaring that the works are their own and were completed by their students.
-Permission from the Torrevieja City Council to publish, reproduce, or distribute all or part of the works submitted for the competition.
-An authorisation from the Torrevieja City Council to exhibit the submitted works in the final phase of the Competition in Torrevieja as well as any other exhibition judged acceptable, signed by a representative of the centre.
In addition to the selected drawings serving as the basis for the Christmas illumination designs in the municipality of Torrevieja, a total of six prizes will be awarded, distributed as follows:
Category 1 includes centres for children with special educational needs.
A lot valued at €250 that includes school supplies, crafts, and/or reading books.
A lot worth €150 that includes school materials, crafts, and/or reading books.
Category 2: centres for pupils in the first and second years of primary school.
A lot valued at €250 that includes school supplies, crafts, and/or reading books.
A lot worth €150 that includes school materials, crafts, and/or reading books.
A lot of one hundred euros (100€) worth of school supplies, art materials, and/or reading books.
A lot worth 75 euros (€) that includes school materials, crafts, and/or reading books.
