Threats, coercion to beg, and imprisonment for up to two months on a balcony in Alicante are all part of the story. Five members of one man’s family are facing charges for the suffering he endured.
The ordeal started at the Elda local festival in 2024. That summer, the victim said that three of the now-detained men attacked him.
From then on, the victim began getting threats and coercion to drop the complaint, which would have resulted in a court fine for the perpetrators.
In actuality, the suspected attackers requested a thousand euros “to forget what happened and leave him alone,” according to the National Police.
With the alleged persecution on his shoulders, the victim relocated to Torrevieja in search of safety. The break lasted only until October, when three of the captives discovered him at his new address and started the coercion.
According to the National Police, the victim succumbed to the blackmail and paid them 700 euros in the hopes that the threats would stop.
And, as the police often warn, that is only the beginning. In November, one of the defendants returned to see him and took him to Elda.
This is the worst portion of the complaint. He was imprisoned at the arrestees’ residence in Medio Vinalopó for two months and forced to spend the majority of his time on the balcony, where he was subjected to incessant physical assault, insults, and humiliation.
The arrested individuals are accused of taking the victim’s personal documents, which they used to make numerous purchases in his name, resulting in a debt of over four thousand euros.
The troubles persisted, and he was transferred to Novelda, where he begged outside a store. The now-detained persons held all the money and commodities the victim obtained.
The victim’s condition deteriorated to such an extent that the hospital admitted him. The hospital diagnosed him with pulmonary sepsis, various assault-related injuries, dehydration, acute diarrhoea, and other comparable problems. He was discharged after two weeks.
The Elda-Petrer National Police Judicial Police Brigade conducted an investigation to gather evidence, identify people involved, and determine what transpired. After identifying the five criminals, the Citizen Security Units planned a search effort.
As a result of this operation, individuals involved were arrested and brought before the Elda Investigative Court, which sentenced the three major suspects to prison. Four of them have had prior convictions for other offences.
The National Police have detained five people in the town of Elda-Petrer, four men and one woman aged 18 to 39, for alleged involvement in crimes against liberty, moral integrity, and public order, among others.
The inmates, who were related, held the victim in their house for several months, assaulting her and forcing her to plead to repay an alleged obligation.
