The Guardia Civil has arrested two males, ages 27 and 45, as alleged perpetrators of the shooting on May 13 in Orihuela Costa (Alicante), which left a 21-year-old man gravely injured after being shot in the head. The victim, who is believed to be an Irish national, remains in critical condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
The incident occurred at night in a recreational area near the Zenia Boulevard shopping centre. The young man was discovered on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head. Since then, the Alicante Guardia Civil’s Organic Judicial Police Unit (UOPJ), in partnership with the Criminalistics Laboratory, has been conducting an investigation to determine what happened.
Officers gathered testimony, examined evidence, and dug deeper into the victim’s circumstances. A major discovery was a bag found in a vacant lot, which included a pistol, ammunition, and the young man’s cell phone.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of two suspects, one at Orihuela Costa and the other in Pilar de la Horadada. Investigators also conducted a search at one of their homes. Both have been arrested under suspicion of attempted homicide.
The Orihuela Investigating Court No. 2 has ruled that one of the detainees, who is suspected of being the shooter, be placed in provisional detention without bail. The second suspect has been released on bond, subject to frequent court appearances and a bar on leaving the country, as he is being investigated as a suspected accessory after the fact.
