The government plans to expand smoke-free areas beyond bar and restaurant terraces and bus shelters.
Mónica GarcÃa, Minister of Health, declared a ban on smoking in work vehicles, including delivery trucks, during an appearance on Ser radio.
Smoking will also be prohibited in athletic facilities, community swimming pools, and other outdoor areas. The minister also stated that the legislation will apply to university campuses and open-air nightclubs.
The government is planning to revise the Anti-Smoking Law, which will control new smoke-free areas. GarcÃa declared today, Thursday May 29th, from Geneva that the change “will be as ambitious as possible.”
“Those places where the protection of people’s health coincides with scientific evidence, such as terraces and many other public places, the Ministry’s proposal must obviously be one that ensures the protection of citizens’ health,” he concluded during a break from his participation in the WHO Executive Board.
In addition, the Ministry of Health will use plain packaging as part of the Anti-Smoking Law change.
