The City Council will erect shade sails on various schools’ playgrounds to minimise the impacts of the sun and heat. This work will be done at three public schools: La Marina, Virgen de la Asunción, and Reyes Católicos, which, according to Councillor for Public Services Claudio Guilabert, have fewer trees and hence less covered areas.
The awning installation work will be completed during the summer months to minimise disruptions to the educational community, with the goal of having them ready for the start of the new school year in September.
The project costs 73,589 euros, and the goal is to expand the installation of shade sails to additional schools in the town.
“It is a priority for this municipal government to invest in the municipality’s educational centres, specifically in initiatives that improve the well-being and quality of life of the youngest children,” said Guilabert. She added that these shade sails, like those installed in public spaces, are fireproof, but unlike the latter, they will come in a variety of shapes and colours.
On another front, the local councillor has declared that awnings will be installed on the facade of the kindergarten classroom courtyard at La Paz School in Torrellano due to the high temperatures inside the school produced by sun radiation hitting the facade. This is a specific request from the school’s educational community and costs €36,810. We will also carry out these works in July and August.
