A neighbour in the Secano neighbourhood of Benejúzar reported an odd discovery: a huge garter snake inside his toilet.
A complex and uncommon intervention
Following the phone call, the officers responded to the home right away. Upon arriving, they discovered that the reptile was a Montpellier garter snake, a non-venomous species of significant size and power. According to the cops, the animal was “from a large plaza and a first-class squad.”
Capturing animals is not a simple undertaking. The Local Police remind us that these activities are not taught at the academy: “We’ve already dealt with dogs, cats, birds… and even a pony, but this was another level,” they added.
The snake escaped before finally being apprehended
During the procedure, the snake managed to escape into the bathroom, forcing the officers to chase it in a scenario that was both tense and amusing. Finally, the snake was successfully trapped, with no harm to either the animal or the cops, except for the “sore muscles” from the physical exertion, which they chuckled about.

Release back into their original habitat
Once the animal was safe, it was released in a location far from the city centre, within its natural habitat, where it could live its life without endangering the population.
Special thanks to a coworker from Bigastro
The Benejúzar Local Police Department thanked Officer Efrén of Bigastro Local Police, an expert in reptiles, for his telephone assistance. They also asked homeowners to learn more about this species, which is closer to our houses than we realise.
