After a frenetic chase through the Petrero neighbourhood of Salinetas, the National Police recovered jewellery and other items from a burglary at a nearby villa on May 22nd in record speed. The event occurred in the early morning, and owing to the neighbours’ exceptional cooperation, the two robbers were apprehended, hiding under a bush with no escape route after traversing many plots of land. During their getaway, one of them misplaced the underwear he had used to conceal his face while executing the crime.
According to individuals familiar with the matter, a local informed the National Police that two males were inside the building between 1:00 and 1:30 a.m. A patrol team of seven cars was promptly dispatched, one of which approached the property while the others blocked off the perimeter to prevent the robbers from fleeing.
According to the same reports, as the patrol approached the residence, one of the neighbours made eye contact and informed them of the two men’s presence. The officers entered the house, but the thieves ran, jumping several fences on neighbouring plots at an unusual speed, and the officers lost sight of them.
The residents of these plots, located near the Plaza de La Molineta de Dios, persistently took the lead, loudly directing the police towards the correct path. Their cooperation enabled the police to trace the route and apprehend the two fugitives. They remained hiding under some bushes, with no way out, until they were apprehended.
The robbers are two 20-year-old Chilean guys who were arrested with the equipment they had reportedly used to force a bathroom window and gain entry. One of them was also wearing dark pants to disguise his face and latex gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints. During the raid, the second young man lost his black pants, as well as another pair of gloves, which officers later found.
Among the finds were many pieces of gold and diamond jewellery. At the time of his arrest, he was carrying high-end cell phones, a luxury watch, and a bag to transport the stolen jewellery. According to this newspaper, the detainees had one and two prior convictions, respectively. The Elda Court of First Instance took them into custody.
