The Torrevieja City Council’s Local Government Board (LGC) accepted the Basic and Execution Project for the rehabilitation of the La Plasa building on Friday morning, May 30th, with a material execution budget of 8,980,131 euros (including VAT). La Plasa currently houses an indoor market in the centre of Torrevieja and has been neglected for many years.
Rosario Martínez Chazarra, Councillor for Commerce and Hospitality, has announced that with the approval of the execution project by the JGL, the government team is expected to proceed with the tendering of the works, which will begin this year, according to the budget allocation of 4.5 million euros in the current municipal budget for the financial year 2025.

Rosario Martínez recalled that the construction project for the renovation of “La Plasa” was awarded and carried out by the joint venture Cayetano Bernabé Ingeniero y Asociados, SL – Jorgue Juan Bernabé Brotons and Salvador Moreno Zambudio for a budget of 308,596 euros (including VAT).
The approach and development of this basic and implementation project comprises completely reworking the building’s commercial and aesthetic elements, accessibility, and internal layout, as well as redesigning the nearby streets and their use. The final project should establish “La Plasa” as an architectural icon in Torrevieja, distinguished by both its architecture and its commitment to the community and the surrounding urban environment.
Finally, the Councillor for Commerce and Hospitality noted that, at the City Council’s request, numerous uses on the second and third floors of La Plasa were deleted, as specified in the tender conditions, leaving both floors open to multifunctional usage.
