According to the autopsy done yesterday, Monday June 2nd, at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, the body that appeared floating on Saturday approximately two nautical miles off the island of Tabarca, Alicante, belonged to a woman aged 30 to 40.
The Guardia Civil is considering the most plausible explanation, which is that the woman drowned while on a boat crossing off the coast of Algeria. Investigators will now attempt to identify the victim.
People familiar with the case believe that, based on the stage of decomposition of the woman’s body, she could have died at sea around a month ago.
The Guardia Civil’s Maritime Service recovered the body after receiving a call from 112 reporting the existence of a body floating in the sea near the island of Tabarca.
The body was transferred to the port of Santa Pola, where it was removed in front of the judicial commission and conveyed by van to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Alicante.
