Body of 12-meter sperm whale recovered near Tabarca

Maritime Rescue have recovered the carcass of a 12-metre-long sperm whale that was floating 1.5 miles south of Tabarca Island near Alicante, the agency reported.

The rescue operation took place on Sunday morning, June 1st, after a fishing boat reported seeing the whale.

The Maritime Rescue vessel recovered the body, which was drifting, and the Salvamar Leo crew members moved it to the Port of Alicante.

The sperm whale was then transferred to the University of Valencia for a necropsy to ascertain its cause of death.
