Less than 48 hours after the theft was reported, National Police officers in Alicante detained a man accused of breaking into a church’s donation boxes and stealing the money inside.
According to a statement from the Superior Police Headquarters, officers from the Alicante Central District Police Station’s Judicial Police Task Force led the investigation and were able to identify the perpetrator of the robberies after a series of procedures and inspections.
The suspected perpetrator broke into the church’s contribution boxes in early May and stole a “undetermined” quantity of money, then repeated the robbery in the middle of the month.
The church officials did not make a complaint until the 27th, when the investigation began. Thus, they apprehended the alleged culprit in less than 48 hours.
Officers stated that public cooperation was “critical,” as they were able to identify, find, and capture the robber in “very few hours” based on a photograph taken of him by a witness.
The inmate, a 56-year-old man, was taken before the Alicante Investigating Court after police investigations.
