On Saturday, May 31st, around 3:45 a.m., alarms went off at a workshop south of Camino Viejo de Callosa, near the Miguel Hernández House Museum in Orihuela. The establishment’s security firm immediately alerted the National Police, who promptly dispatched a patrol car to the scene, while another police unit formed a perimeter.
The dispatched police confirmed on-site that the main wooden door had a hole on one side. The hole was small, yet spacious enough to allow someone to enter.
The police found a witness who claimed to have seen a man enter. He was even able to record it on his mobile phone. After reviewing the photographs, which are now in the court’s possession, they distributed the material along with the suspect’s description to other patrols. Shortly after, they discovered a suspicious-looking individual nearby who matched the suspected thief’s appearance and wore the same outfit as seen in the video.
The man attempted to flee by slipping down an alleyway. They eventually catch him, though. The police see that his clothes and hands are stained. After identifying him, they learn that the 46-year-old man has a number of similar criminal histories. There were 24 other arrests for property offences, breaking and entering, and burglaries. When the garage alarms went off, the man was forced to leave without stealing anything.
The National Police arrested him and handed him over to the Orihuela investigating court.
