FACUA-Consumers in Action has written to the General Directorate of Roads, which is part of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, to ask them to widen the A7 road, often known as the Mediterranean freeway, to alleviate traffic congestion between Murcia and the Valencian Community.
The association, via its regional office in the Region of Murcia, has learnt about an increase in traffic jams and slow traffic flow on the stretch connecting the two autonomous communities, primarily due to the absence of a third lane that could alleviate congestion between Murcia and Alicante.
In this regard, FACUA warns of the urgent need to enhance and broaden the A7 highway as it passes through the Region of Murcia, as it is a particularly congested road, especially for freight trucks travelling throughout the country, which further impedes vehicle traffic.
Increased congestion and a lack of fluidity in traffic can also raise the danger of accidents for motorists on the highway.
The group points out that Law 37/2015, of September 29, on roads, states in Article 21 that the Ministry “will periodically carry out road safety inspections on the State Road Network to identify elements that can be improved for safety reasons.”
For all of these reasons, FACUA strongly asks the General Directorate of Roads to implement the required changes to enhance and expand the A7 roadway to alleviate serious traffic congestion.
