The alleged perpetrator of a domestic violence attack on his partner, a Petrer (Alicante) resident, was detained on Wednesday by the town’s Local Police. According to the City Council, the victim, who had injuries to numerous portions of her body, sought assistance from the Social Services and Equality departments before being taken to Elda Hospital’s Emergency Department.
The local council has also sent the detainee to the National Police Station for further investigation into this type of situation.
The mayor’s office said that the victim, “visibly affected and with obvious injuries to various parts of her body, sought refuge in the municipal Social Services and Equality offices, where she was immediately treated.”
According to her, “Given the seriousness of the situation, the Department of Social Services immediately activated the comprehensive care protocol for victims of gender-based violence, in coordination with the Petrer Local Police.”
The police then transported the woman to the Emergency Department of Elda Hospital, where they treated her and issued a medical report. She was subsequently transported by local police officers to the Elda National Police Station, where she filed a complaint and was treated by members of the Family and Women’s Unit (UFAM).
The Petrer City Council has stated that it “strongly condemns this brutal attack” and that “detecting and reporting any form of gender-based violence, no matter how minor, is key to preventing more serious situations.”
016: Attention to Victims of Gender-Based Violence
As a result, the council has urged all citizens to act “responsibly and courageously” in such situations, while also reminding residents that there are many routes for seeking assistance.
These are the 016 phone line, which leaves no trace on the bill; the Petrer Local Police, which provides “close and direct” assistance; and the National Police, through 112, with specialised units for gender-based violence, as well as the municipal Social Services, which are “prepared” to provide psychological, legal, and social support “immediately.”
