The Valencian Community’s Managing Committee for University Access and Pre-registration Processes, which is in charge of appointing teaching staff to PAU examination panels, has urgently approved the dismissal of the appointment as a correction member of the professor who distributed an exam earlier than scheduled yesterday.
The events began on Wednesday morning, June 4th, when the Miguel Hernández University of Elche discovered the unlawful activity of a high school teacher, a member of one of the PAU exam panels, who leaked the questions for the Spanish History exam minutes before they were scheduled to be released.
Once a University Entrance Exam (PAU) has begun, students have a 45-minute window to enter the classroom and take the exam, even if they arrive late. The same opportunity is also provided for the public release of exam questions. The originals of each exam are also supplied to the teachers who accompany the kids at each school 45 minutes after it begins.
Miguel Hernández University launched an immediate inquiry into the occurrence, identifying the professor and confirming that he distributed images of the Spanish History exam to a select group of persons via Telegram at 12:11 p.m. The exam might have been made public at 12:30 p.m., given that it began at 11:45 a.m.
The committee held an emergency meeting yesterday afternoon in response to what it deems to be “serious irresponsibility and improper conduct” by this professor, and voted to remove him from his job as a correctional officer. The committee expresses remorse for “the concern caused among students and faculty.”
However, the commission states that this dissemination did not cause any problems in the conduct of the Spanish History exam, as all students were taking the test in the classroom at the time. Therefore, the exam is fully valid and does not need to be retaken.
