Yesterday, Thursday June 5th, Alicante City Council issued a warning about fraud committed by placing approximately thirty false reports, purporting to impose fines, on the windscreens of cars near the Central Market, specifically on Calle Poeta Quintana, Manuel Antón, Campos Vasallo, Belando, Capitán Segarra, and San Juan Bosco. However, the likelihood of similar fraud occurring on other municipal highways is not ruled out.
According to a statement released by municipal sources, ORA service controllers have retracted all bogus reports discovered. The Department of Security and Mobility requests that the public remain “alert and not scan this QR code or enter your personal or banking information under any circumstances.”
“These phoney notifications include QR codes that lead to malicious websites that steal personal and banking information. The Department of Security urges the public not to scan QR codes or enter personal or banking information. “The National Police have already been notified and are investigating the incident,” the public notification states.
Meanwhile, the Local Police have warned that official fines “have a completely different design, titled ‘Complaint Form,’ with the Alicante City Council logo at the top.” “They never include a QR code, but rather a barcode with a reference number and the type of violation,” the statement says.
