Claudio Guilabert, Councillor for Public Services, has announced that the municipality’s traffic lights will be modernised with the installation of decounters, which are timers that count down the time pedestrians have left to cross the street before the light changes colour.
“We are fulfilling a demand from neighbourhood associations, families, and people with disabilities by installing this countdown timer at traffic lights,” said Guilabert. He also noted that “In this first phase, a total of twelve countdown timers have been installed at pedestrian crossings where there are usually large crowds or in areas near schools.”
Since Monday, June 3rd, they have been implemented in several locations, including Calle Jorge Juan with San FermÃn Ambulatory, Calle Almórida with Hospital, Calle Alicante with Murcia, Avenida Alicante with Sabadell, Sucre Street with Jávea, Calle Sucre with Antonio Mora Fernández, and Pedro Juan Perpiñán intersections.
According to the local councillor, installing traffic signals with speed meters achieves three goals: enhancing road safety, preventing accidents, and advancing towards a safer city. “We continue to make progress and improve infrastructure to improve road safety in the municipality,” according to him.
This activity is part of the traffic control facility maintenance contract and seeks to “continue updating and modernising road safety in the city, as well as meeting the demands made to us by the associations.”
