The Almoradà City Council has signed a 10-year deal with PreZero to provide street cleaning and municipal solid waste collection services. The contract covers the renewal of the cleaning and collection system, with criteria of sustainability, efficiency, and urban environmental development. The annual expenditure is €1,638,000, with an increase of €175,000 beginning in the third year.
MarÃa Gómez, mayor of AlmoradÃ, claimed that this contract signals a turning point in the municipality’s garbage management and cleaning. We are taking a significant step forward to meet the demands of our community, and we kindly request their patience as we gradually implement the service one month after contract signing.
Domingo Andreu, Councillor for Urban Cleaning, stated that “the reinforcement of machinery, personnel, and frequency of service will allow us to offer a more efficient, modern, and environmentally friendly response, doubling both personnel and frequency of services both in the town centre and in the outlying districts.”
The service will launch on July 1st, 2025, and is expected to be completely operational within 15 months. In terms of the contract’s primary enhancements, the councillor listed “the complete replacement of machinery and containers, double the number of operators, daily service, including Sundays and holidays, more frequent service in districts, monthly park cleaning and sweeping, biweekly cleaning of industrial estates, as well as the expansion of household goods and selective waste collection.”
Andreu announced a new development: “We will be pioneers in the specific nappy collection service for children’s and nursing home spaces.” We will gradually deploy brown containers (organic garbage) and are investigating the use of electric cars to promote environmental sustainability.”
The contract award procedure began in January 2024, and the Plenary Session authorised it on January 31, 2025. Despite an appeal filed with the Central Administrative Court for Contractual Resources (TARC), it was dismissed on May 23, 2025, so certifying the process with technical findings and a positive outcome.
MarÃa Gómez stated that the Almoradà City Council’s new contract confirms their commitment to a cleaner, contemporary, and sustainable city. We therefore encourage civic participation throughout this process, in which we will reduce and recycle together through awareness-raising campaigns and, in a few months, with the appropriate equipment.”
