The anti-bullfighting group Ondara Sense Crueltat Animal (Ondara Sense Crueltat Animal) gathered over the weekend in front of the town’s bullring on Vicent Andrés Estellés Street, where a bullfight was taking place as part of the so-called Feria de la Marina (Marina Fair). Another concert is scheduled for August 9th.
The truth is that neither event generated much interest. A few dozen people attended the event, holding banners with the words “Torture is not culture” and “Let’s leave bullfighting in the past.”
Ondara City Council must cede the bullring “by legal imperative” for bullfighting activities, despite the fact that it has not staged such events in more than 15 years. In 2025, a matador-run bullfighting firm reactivated the usage of the bullring to hold these events, despite the City Council’s objections in 2024. However, because the bullring is municipally owned, it cannot refuse to rent space to anyone who seeks it.
Inside the bullring, Luis Algarra provided bulls and young bulls for Paco Ureña, Calita, Borja Jiménez, and Luis Pizarro, a horseless novillero making his debut under lights.
