The Guardia Civil’s Seprona recovered 250 kilogrammes of fishing products destined for unlawful sale. Those guilty face fines of up to €60,000 for failing to get fishing permits and selling them as a risk to human consumption and the environment.
Guardia Civils discovered 250 kilos of unlawfully trafficked fish products during various checks in the Port of Santa Pola last month. Of the total seized, 140 kilos were juvenile rock octopus that were planned to be carried out of the harbour without the necessary permits, and another 110 kilos of octopus, chicken, and rubbish fish that had been unlawfully acquired by a restaurant.
Those responsible for both actions face fines of up to 60,000 euros. Seprona advises that selling fish products without first going via the fish market is not only commercial fraud, but also lacks the preceding health check that decides if a product is safe for human consumption.
