Murcia’s Mayor, José Ballesta, said that the Eagle Patrol will paint the sky of Murcia with the colours of the Spanish flag tomorrow, Wednesday June 11th, allowing residents and visitors to watch the eagles fly through the city.
The Eagle Patrol aims to pay respect to Murcia on the occasion of its 1,200th anniversary by flying above the city at 12:00 p.m., strengthening its strong relations with the General Air and Space Academy.
2025 is also a historic year for the aerobatic patrol, which is commemorating its 40th anniversary with a busy schedule of events, culminating this weekend with the ‘Aire 25’ festival over the Mar Menor.
From Murcia to Heaven with Segura as the Protagonist
The last flight will take place along the Segura River, with the Glorieta de España serving as the focal point. Viewers can enjoy the spectacle from both sides.
This square will host the “From Murcia to Heaven” event, organised by the Murcia City Council and the Air and Space Force, which will include activities to supplement what promises to be a historic day.
This venue, named after Zorrilla’s work, will allow Murcians and visitors to experience the festival directly, including multimedia components regarding the Patrulla Águila, the festival, and the city of Murcia. They will also see the outfits worn by the pilots when performing acrobatics, which have become an ambassador for the region and a national icon.
Farewell to the Legendary C101
This Wednesday’s flypast will be the last chance to view the renowned C101, which has been with the Eagle Patrol since its inception and will depart at this weekend’s air show to make room for the Pilatus. This is the same aircraft that hundreds of pilots at the General Air and Space Academy have trained on.
This farewell to the C101 will add a historical element to the Patrol’s already stunning image of the city, thus the City Council urges Murcians and visitors to get out on the streets and enjoy their visit to Murcia.
The pilots are set to perform two of their most famous manoeuvres, the corkscrew and the formation pass in the colours of the Spanish flag.
This is not the first celebration commemorating the city’s 1,200th anniversary or the Eagle Patrol’s 40th anniversary. The General Air and Space Academy’s Music Unit celebrated the events with a stunning concert at the Romea Theatre on May 29th.
The event showcased the global premiere of “Águila… romper ya” (Eagle… Break Now), a musical tribute to Murcia’s heritage and the Patrol.
