Investigators from the Judicial Police Brigade and the Drug and Organised Crime Unit (Udyco) of the National Police of the Region conducted two simultaneous searches in the municipality of Murcia, seizing approximately 25 kilos of cocaine and arresting at least five people.
With a court warrant in hand, investigators visited two areas in the regional capital: Era Alta, a village of just over 3,000 people located approximately three kilometres from the city centre, and the Ronda Sur neighbourhood on the outskirts of the city.
At least five people were arrested during the operation, which also included members of the National Police’s Special Canine Guide Unit. Investigators had been tracking them for a while due to their alleged involvement in illegal operations.
Following weeks of investigation, the operation took place on Wednesday morning. Around twenty police officers, several of whom were driving unmarked vehicles, took control of the area in Ronda Sur. At the same time, the hunt was underway in Era Alta.
Inside a garage
The two men arrested in Ronda Sur were apprehended inside a private garage of an apartment building, where they entered a vehicle. The highly armed officers engaged the suspects in a tense operation.
According to witnesses one of them struggled, reached into his pocket, and pretended to take something out; faced with the possibility that it was a weapon or some object with which he could attack the officers, one of them was forced to use his serviceable defence and wound the suspect in the head during the struggle.
Before being transferred to the police station, this man was escorted to the Infante Health Centre, where he was shackled and kept under constant watch, and treated for minor injuries. He was then returned to the police van and driven to the station.
