The Aire25 event, marking the 40th anniversary of the Patrulla Águila, will bring together Europe’s top air patrols over Murcia. Tomorrow, Saturday June 14th, spectators will be able to view a static exhibition of over 30 military and civilian aircraft, both national and international. Some of the planes will be accessible to the public.
When you arrive at San Javier Air Base’s static exhibition area, you’ll be met by Europe’s logistical juggernaut, the A400M Atlas, a symbol of strategic transport capabilities. It will be positioned on the left side of the entrance, commanding attention with its massive shape and eight-blade propellers.
From there, you’ll enter the static show through an honour portal, which is flanked by two Eagle Patrol C-101 Aviojet aircraft. One has a commemorative tail fin for the patrol’s 40th anniversary, while the other celebrates its 25th anniversary. An iconic image that will signal the start of your journey.
Beyond the solemn aerial portal, you can visit the area of historic aeroplanes, curated by our country’s leading aviation foundations. These organisations have loaned genuine aircraft treasures spanning over a century of history, including the T-6 Texan, Sabre, and Bücker. A one-of-a-kind opportunity to see them up close.
The tour concludes with a big cargo aircraft, the A400M Atlas, Europe’s logistical powerhouse. The C-295 represents pure tactical adaptability. The CN-235 is a symbol of Spain’s international presence. Colossal machinery, prepared for any assignment.
Air show
On Sunday, June 15th, the most significant air show in recent years will take place, an unequalled extravaganza in Spanish aviation history. This event celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Patrulla Águila and features Europe’s top aerobatic patrols, Spanish Air Force and Space Force aircraft, and historic aircraft.
Air Force General Francisco Braco Carbó, as Chief of Staff of the Air and Space Force, wished to honour the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Patrulla Águila, which first flew at San Javier Air Base on July 4th, 1985, onboard a C-101. The Patrulla Águila, a military air patrol that began in 1956 with the F-86 ‘Sabre’, has become one of the world’s best and is a favourite at national and international festivals. The Patrulla Águila’s pilots and mechanics have consistently demonstrated exceptional preparation, safety, and flight discipline over time. The precision of its motions and the spectacular nature of its manoeuvres, as proved in innumerable demonstrations across the world, represent the image and prestige of the Air and Space Force, as well as the Spanish brand, according to Braco.
“This anniversary comes with a heartfelt farewell to his current steed, the C-101, our beloved “Culopollo.” Developed by Construcciones Aeronáuticas in the late 1970s, it has allowed the Air Force and Space Force to train all of their pilots for nearly 40 years.” But don’t worry, they’ll be launching a new aircraft soon,” the general said.
To honour this occasion, the Eagle Patrol will fly with the world’s top aerobatic patrols, each performing their usual and spectacular routines. And what better location to do so than in their own home, at the “Aire 25” Air Festival, which will be held on June 14th and 15th at the San Javier Air Base and on the Mar Menor’s beaches.
Also, please remember that the A-7 motorway tunnel is still closed at Pilar de la Horadada, so allow extra travel time, as no doubt the N-332 there will be a lot busier than normal.
