The Regional Ministry of Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory has announced the commencement of an inspection campaign aimed at plastic waste managers in the Valencian Community, which will last from June 15th to October 15th, 2025. This effort aims to improve control of waste management, eliminate illicit acts, and safeguard operators who obey the law.
The campaign will be carried out in collaboration with the Guardia Civil’s Nature Protection Service (Seprona) under the terms of the collaboration agreement signed by the Generalitat (Catalan Government) and the Ministry of the Interior for environmental, agricultural, and fisheries protection in the Valencian Community. This agreement enables for the coordination of collaborative measures, the sharing of information, and improved monitoring of activities that may endanger the environment.
Jorge Blanco, the Director General of Quality and Environmental Education, asserts that the management of plastic waste must adhere to all legal and environmental regulations. This initiative aims to end unfair competition and safeguard both the environment and enterprises that follow legislation.”
During the inspections, crucial issues will be monitored, including the terms of authorisation for plastic waste managers, the unauthorised storage of plastic trash, and a lack of traceability in deliveries to authorised managers.
Serious infractions may result in fines of up to 100,000 euros, as well as the requirement to remove garbage and restore the impacted environment. Recent inspections revealed sites with thousands of tonnes of plastic garbage that lacked safety safeguards or environmental controls.
Blanco stated that the Regional Ministry reminds everyone that “all plastic waste management activities must have corresponding authorisation and be duly registered.” Similarly, it encourages the public to help safeguard the environment and ensure responsible waste management by reporting any irregularities through official means.
