The immersive showing of the film “Blue Hell” attracted approximately 3,000 people on Saturday, June 14th, in Cala Cortina. Attendees could view the film, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, on floats or from the beach.
The City Council and the Sombra Festival jointly organised the effort, which included event security, park-and-ride parking, and extended bus service.
Nearly 3,000 people were able to watch this 2016 film in a unique showing that pays respect to the term “summer blockbuster.” 150 floats were provided, but attendees were also encouraged to bring their own or rest on the beach sand.
The event began at 8:00 p.m. with a DJ session by Hellions, who played a mix of rock and metal tunes, including songs from the participating bands. Rock Imperium Festival. Beer trucks and other activities completed the event.
The event, which is part of the City Council’s summer culture programme, is featured in the screening programme organised by the Sombra Festival in its “Sombra Summer Edition” segment, with the goal of “bringing fantasy cinema to new spaces and formats,” according to a statement from the Cartagena City Council.
Security and Transportation
The City Council organised a response that comprised additional Local Police (GOESC), Civil Protection, Infrastructure, and Culture personnel, as well as partnership with the National Police and a port police patrol, in addition to private protection.
In addition, the beach was outfitted with a Civil Protection aid post on land, lifeguards in the water, and extra cleaning crews.
Two park-and-ride zones were built up: one at the San Pedro port, beside the Sesticasa building, and another opposite the petrol station near the Grúa Sansón roundabout.
Finally, they have extended the Beach Bus service from 6:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. until September 14th. As in past summers, the bus will take the following route to Cala Cortina: Paseo Alfonso XIII, Capitanes Ripoll, Plaza Puertas de San José, and Cala Cortina, after which it will reverse direction.
