The Guardia Civil discovered 20 kilogrammes of methamphetamine hidden in a “sophisticated trapdoor” behind the seat of a car in the port of Dénia and arrested the driver, a 43-year-old male.
Officers from the Fiscal and Borders detachment of the Guardia Civil at the port noticed a car that raised their concerns, and after checking it and identifying its only occupant, they decided to investigate further.
In this method, they uncovered a complex electronic opening system and discovered that a metal trapdoor under the passenger seat could be removed by pressing a specific combination of buttons using a cable located on the car’s floor.

That trapdoor concealed a chamber with many vacuum-packed bags filled with a white powder, which was later discovered to contain 19.6 kilogrammes of methamphetamine.
In addition to the drugs, the vehicle and €1,125 in cash were seized, and the driver was brought before Denia Investigating Court No. 2, where he was ordered remanded in pretrial arrest without bail.
The Guardia Civil is continuing its investigation to discover the narcotic’s origin and end destination, and more action in this case is not ruled out.
12 kilogrammes of hashish were seized
Weeks before, at the same spot, Guardia Civil officers discovered more than 12 kilogrammes of hashish pollen stashed in another car headed for the Balearic Islands.
Due to their suspicions, they searched the car and discovered a fake bottom carrying the drugs, according to the same sources.
This time, they seized the vehicle and 300 euros, arrested the driver, sent him to court, and sentenced him to imprisonment.
