A smuggling operation was detected after it was revealed that military machinery was being delivered from San Vicente del Raspeig (Alicante) to Russia, circumventing the prohibitions in place due to the conflict in Ukraine.
A large operation conducted by National Police officers and the Tax Agency’s Customs Surveillance Unit, in coordination with the National Intelligence Centre (CNI), resulted in the arrest of three people for allegedly smuggling forbidden commodities.
The arrests occurred on June 10th in the province of Valencia, although they were carried out in San Vicente del Raspeig, the headquarters of a business company. Various computer equipment, electronic devices, and documents have been confiscated and are being examined by professionals.

Russia established this company as a front for shipping machinery worth hundreds of thousands of euros. To do this, they employed a triangulation technique that involved companies in other countries to mask the final destination of the material, with one of the arrested men serving as a frontman.
At the conclusion of this business network, a Russian corporation was approved by international organisations, which received the dual-purpose machinery.
These machines are equipped with automated technology that can produce complex components. Mass-production industries, such as automobile metalworking, aerospace, and even the military, primarily employ these machines.
The Sharma-Konturi operation began in early 2024 after agents learnt about the purchase and sale of a Spanish-based trading corporation involved in the international commerce of machinery.
Investigators determined that the inmates sent the merchandise through numerous European customs offices, identifying a third country as the bogus end destination for the machinery, which was then re-exported to the Russian Federation.
Viktor Murenko’s organisation was raided this week by the National Police
Murenko, the detained gun trafficker, has asked the National Court to return to Ukraine to fight.
“The detainees also falsified the documentation and labelling of the products in order to conceal the true nature of the material included in the embargo imposed on Russia,” according to the National Police.
The inmates were taken before the head of the competent Central Investigative Court last Friday, who sentenced two of them to prison and released the third on bail.
