Man admits sexually abusing a sleeping friend after a drinking party in Cartagena

A 26-year-old guy has acknowledged in court to sexually abusing a buddy who fell asleep during a drinking session in Cartagena.

The defence attorney for the suspect, a youngster from the Ivory Coast who lives in Cartagena, agreed with the Prosecutor’s Office and the private prosecution to sentence him to four years in jail and to pay his victim 8,000 euros for the damages committed.

The incidents occurred in May 2021. According to the statement of proven facts in the ruling of the Fifth Section of the Provincial Court, based in Cartagena, a group of friends and acquaintances were drinking and smoking in Los Juncos Park in the port city when some of them decided to continue the party on the roof of the woman’s residence.

On the rooftop of his building

Around five a.m., many of them departed the house, leaving the victim and attacker behind. The attacker and another friend “lay down on the floor of the building’s rooftop,” according to the court filing. She fell asleep at that point, and he “with the intention of satisfying his sexual appetite, touched her breasts and inserted his fingers into her vagina, causing the woman to wake up with a start.”

The victim filed a complaint. Four years later, there’s a sentence. Four years for sexual abuse, a two-year ban on approaching the woman within 500 metres of her prison for the duration of his release, and a civil liability of 8,000 euros.
