After recognising two young males who reportedly stole a bin truck, the Guardia Civil, in coordination with the Albudeite Local Police, apprehended and investigated them, as well as three others who were following them in another vehicle and recording the whole thing on their mobile phones. The incident culminated in a traffic accident between the two cars
On Saturday, June 14th, a group of young people returning from the Campos del RÃo festival discovered that a municipal solid urban waste collection worker had left the bin truck running while working.
Two members of the group decided to jump inside the heavy vehicle, steal it, and drive it through the streets of Albudeite.
Meanwhile, three additional passengers followed the truck in a car, capturing the situation on their mobile phones. For several minutes, the rubbish truck drove through a section of Albudeite, blatantly threatening traffic and pedestrians.
This episode culminated with the large vehicle unexpectedly braking on one of the town’s highways. The car driven by the other three young men, which was following the truck, was unable to avoid the accident and collided with the back of the vehicle.
The road accident resulted in severe material damage, particularly to the car involved, which belonged to one of the young men’s parents.
The Albudeite Local Police’s traffic safety cameras captured the incident, allowing for the identification of people involved and a reconstruction of events.
After gathering all of the necessary evidence, the Guardia Civil discovered and arrested/investigated the five young men engaged in the event. They were accused of theft of a vehicle.
The stolen vehicle has been returned to the firm in charge of urban solid waste management. The damage is being assessed, and those responsible will face charges.
