A 5-year-old child was safely rescued on Thursday, June 26th, after her arm became trapped in a community pool’s suction intake. Her safe release was made possible by the Local Police, Civil Protection, Guardia Civil, and the Provincial Fire Consortium’s quick and coordinated response.
The incident occurred about 11:45 a.m. on June 26, 2025, in a residential neighbourhood in the Al’renal neighbourhood. Local police officers were the first to arrive at the location after receiving the alarm. They instantly assessed the situation and requested emergency assistance, triggering rescue protocols.
The rescue team worked methodically to disassemble a portion of the pool’s filtration system, a delicate task that required extreme accuracy, before extracting the arm from the plastic tube in which it had become caught.
After more than an hour and a half of work, the girl was freed thanks to the professionalism and synchronisation of all teams. Medical personnel promptly treated the girl on site, fortunately resulting in only minor bruising.
Juan Ortolá, the Councillor for Security, emphasised the necessity of cooperation between security and emergency services. “This rescue highlights the crucial role of coordination and teamwork in saving lives.” It’s also critical to have a Fire Department in our community.”
The Local Police warn everyone to always supervise youngsters near swimming pools.
