A transport company filed a complaint with the Murcia Guardia Civil, revealing a drug trafficking network based on the Orihuela Costa and in San Miguel de Salinas area that shipped cocaine and hashish to Ireland and the United Kingdom disguised in industrial machinery sent via international transport companies. The Guardia Civil and the Customs Surveillance Service seized 84.2 kilogrammes of cocaine during an anti-drug operation. The network had disguised an industrial drill and arranged for transportation to Ireland through a company in Monóvar. The organisation also transported another 340 kilogrammes of hashish to a company in Murcia, which French customs discovered.
The operation against this organisation is still ongoing, and the Guardia Civil has arrested four Irish citizens in Orihuela Costa and San Miguel de Salinas. The Civil Guard believes the seizure of two firearms during the searches demonstrates the deadly nature of the gang. The four individuals were granted provisional release after appearing in court in Torrevieja and Orihuela. Lawyers Francisco Miguel Galiana Botella and Iván RodrÃguez Lorente represented one of the alleged members of the drug trafficking network. The case is currently being investigated by a court in Molina de Segura, as the complaint that prompted the investigation was made in the Region of Murcia. However, a court in the province of Alicante may eventually hear the case.
A transport company representative from Lorquà submitted a complaint with the Murcia Civil Guard on June 2th, prompting the investigation. According to the complaint, on May 26th, a truck driver for the company was arrested in France when customs uncovered 340 kilogrammes of hashish in a crate that was intended to contain an industrial fan in a shipment bound for the United Kingdom, especially for a Liverpool company.
The Organised Crime and Anti-Drug Team (EDOA) of the Guardia Civil of Murcia and the Customs Surveillance Service began an investigation under the supervision of a court in Molina. Following judicial authorisation to tap a phone and install tracking devices on two vehicles belonging to the group under investigation, they discovered that it was an organisation that sent merchandise to the United Kingdom and Ireland through transportation companies in Alicante and Murcia.
New shipment
While investigating the case, investigators discovered that the same individuals responsible for the consignment confiscated in France intended to send a similar shipment to Dublin, Ireland. To do this, they contacted a company in Monóvar and expressed their want to send an industrial drilling machine.
On June 11th, one of the detainees drove a truck to the Monóvar firm and delivered a cargo containing an industrial drill. The Guardia Civil analysed the exercise and discovered that 84.2 kilogrammes of cocaine were stashed inside. The narcotics were confiscated with judicial authorisation, and the drill was transported to Ireland on June 13th, where the Irish police were already on alert to try to identify the beneficiaries.
The Guardia Civil and Customs Surveillance found four suspects in Orihuela Costa and San Miguel de Salinas, including the truck driver, and arrested them on June 20th, after the package arrived in Ireland. The network had scheduled another industrial drill for a new drug cargo, but it was empty.
