The National Police have apprehended one of the three people engaged in a homophobic attack on a 20-year-old man whose nose was shattered by a bottle.
Police from the Police Information Brigade, which combats hate crimes, arrested the detainee, a 14-year-old Moroccan minor.
Because the arrested youngster was not the one who threw the bottle, he is initially charged with a hate crime rather than physical harm.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, the detainee is one of three people shown in a video shot by Daniel, the victim of the homophobic attack.
The National Police are working to locate and arrest the other two suspects in the video, one of whom is responsible for the bottle-throwing incident.
The arrested person was released after appearing at police stations and is now under the custody of the Alicante Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office.
The complainant used his Instagram profile to ask for help in identifying the attackers. “The problem is homophobia, not being homosexual. Daniel writes on his social media that visibility, knowledge, love, and dignity combat homophobia.
Daniel said that he is “very grateful” to have received widespread support from various groups and official organisations. Daniel has made his case public not just for himself but also “for those who couldn’t tell their story—there have already been deaths—for those who are afraid, and for all those who come after him.”
