From 2005 until 2023, the Valencian Community celebrated 9,355 same-sex marriages, making it the fourth autonomous territory to do so since the Equal Marriage Law was approved, after only Catalonia (15,900), Madrid (14,790), and Andalusia (11,809).
More than 75,000 same-sex couples have married in Spain since equal marriage was legalised, and women have married more than males in the previous six years.
Between 2005 and 2023, the National Statistics Institute has statistics on 75,561 same-sex marriages: 40,397 between males and 35,164 between women.
During the same time period, 3.18 million couples (male and female) married.
Twenty years after the same-sex marriage law was implemented, 79% of citizens strongly or strongly agree that “it is a positive achievement for society as a whole,” with 87.3% believing it was a first step towards realising LGBTI+ people’s rights.
