Unemployment recorded with Murcia’s public employment agency offices declined by 1,538 persons (-2.01%) in June compared to the previous month, reaching 74,831, according to Ministry of Labour and Social Economy figures. With the June reduction, the region’s unemployment rate has fallen for four months in a row.
This overall number of unemployed is the lowest for a month of June since 2008. Since the start of the comparable historical data in 1996, unemployment has declined in June the most in Murcia (23 times), while it has risen seven times, with the most recent decrease being the highest drop since 2023.
Over the last year, unemployment has decreased by 3,994, or 5.07 percent.
Unemployment decreased by 1,331 (-2.59%) in Services, 153 (-2.12%) in Industry, 94 (-1.69%) in Construction, 31 (-0.37%) in Previously Unemployed, and 71 (-1.9%) in Agriculture.
At the end of the month, the most unemployed sectors were Services (50,095) and No previous work (8,400), while the least unemployed sectors were Agriculture (3,805), Construction (5,476), and Industry (7,055).
In terms of gender, 46,748 of the 74,831 jobless registered in June were women, a fall of 929 (-1.9 percent), and 28,083 were men, a decrease of 609 (-2.1 percent) from the previous month.
Unemployment among young people under 25 declined in June, with 100 fewer unemployed than at the end of the previous month (-1.4 percent), while unemployment among those over 25 fell by 1,438 (-2.08%).
Unemployment declined in all regions except Ceuta (+114) compared to the previous month. Andalusia (-6,974), Madrid (-6,571), and Castile and León (-4,840) had the lowest unemployment rates, while La Rioja (-231) and Melilla (-290) had the highest.
In June, 55,826 contracts were registered in Murcia, a 9.1 percent increase from the same month previous year. Of these, 27,231 were permanent contracts, 2.2 percent less than in June of last year, while 28,595 were temporary contracts (22.5 percent more).
In June, 51.22 percent of the contracts filed were temporary (compared to 44.45 percent the previous month), while 48.78 percent were permanent (55.55 percent the previous month).
