Calpe City Council has started a new citizen information service via official channels on WhatsApp and Telegram. Anyone can now receive municipal information in Spanish, Valencian, or English, whichever language they desire.
Until now, the council had only one Telegram channel with approximately 2,000 subscribers. With this development, the city now has three additional channels on that platform—one for each language—as well as three more on WhatsApp, enabling for more focused and effective distribution of news, announcements, and events of interest.
This service will be managed directly by the Calpe City Council’s Communications Department, which will be in charge of publishing content and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the information disseminated, thereby preventing the spread of hoaxes and misinformation that frequently circulate on these platforms.
With this project, the City Council hopes to bring municipal information closer to the public by allowing direct access from mobile phones without the need to use social media or the internet. This service will also enable the City Council to immediately notify the public in the case of a tragedy or emergency.
