National Police investigators seized 1,344 alleged counterfeit items from 17 stalls in a market in Dénia (Alicante). The intended sale of these articles to the general public violated the registrations and patents of several well-known brands.
The 17 managers of the investigated establishments were arrested during this operation, which was part of a larger campaign to combat industrial and intellectual property violations.
Representatives of several well-known commercial brands filed complaints, prompting the National Police to report the incident.
They reported the presence of multiple stalls at a market in this town, selling various things that duplicated or imitated the brands they represented without authorisation.
Consequently, they established a specific police operation to investigate and, if necessary, prosecute the reported crime. The goal was to check the aforementioned establishments and seize any allegedly fake merchandise. A forensic specialist in trademarks was present.
The police worked together at the 17 investigated locations and discovered various products for sale to the public that were clearly counterfeit and imitated those of the impacted retailers.
Agents discovered purses, wallets, T-shirts, sweatshirts, belts, sneakers, underwear and towels, among other goods, that resembled products from well-known registered brands.
An expert report estimated that the total quantity confiscated would be worth 346,325 euros on the market.
For all of these reasons, the National Police have detained 17 men ranging in age from 22 to 63 for alleged industrial and intellectual property violations.
Following the police inquiry, the entire case was referred to the on-duty investigative court in Dénia.
