Local police apprehended a man who allegedly stole four gold chains worth 22,000 euros.
The incident happened Monday, July 7th, when a man visited a jewellery store early in the morning and asked the owners to show him chains. They showed him many, and after claiming to like four, he eventually chose one, according to municipal sources.
The client instructed the proprietors to hold it for him and said that he would return late in the morning to buy it.
He returned to the jewellery store just before it closed to buy it, but first he wanted to see the other three gold chains he was interested in.
The alleged thief left the shop with them but was not sprinting but rather walking quickly, so the owner exited the shop to seek assistance. At that point, he noticed a local police patrol and signalled to the officer, who was apprehended on the Rambla itself.
The apprehended man, who has a criminal record, was transferred to the Guardia Civil barracks, where the inquiry is being conducted.
He appears to have followed a plan: first, he paid a visit to study how the jewellery store operated, and then he committed the crime.
This incident occurred just one day after another attempted robbery at a jewellery store, the perpetrators used a car to destroy the shutters of the main entrance to the Carrefour Sant Joan store and a jewellery store in an attempt to steal the merchandise on display for sale.
The supermarket, which has multiple stores in its vicinity, awoke on Sunday with different damages but complete order, as they were eventually unable to confiscate the jewellery and gold-buying products discovered there.
