Benidorm City Council has conducted two intense vertical cleanups on Castell’s cliffs and the Serra Gelada Natural Park in the Punta Llisera area to remove various forms of rubbish and protect these places. These are two of the municipality’s most iconic sites, and hundreds of residents, visitors, and tourists visit them every day. Mónica Gómez, Councillor for Beaches and the Environment, explained that these works were completed by RA Benidorm, the company that holds the concession for comprehensive beach management, as part of the special cleanup activities specified in the specifications, which require the concessionaire to carry out six special cleanup activities in the city’s coves and cliffs each year.
These cleanup efforts “have been carried out manually, with workers specialising in this type of vertical work who move along the slopes to collect all the debris that has accumulated,” according to the councillor. Mónica Gómez also emphasised that the Serra Gelada mountain range as a whole and the Punta Canfali cliffs in El Castell are “two of Benidorm’s main tourist attractions,” which is why the City Council “is carrying out all the measures within our reach to keep them in the best condition, both in terms of image and from an environmental perspective.”
Workers removed over 200 kilograms of debris during the vertical cleanup in the Castell region, while nearly 400 kilograms were collected and removed from the slopes surrounding Punta Llisera.
