Mariola Guevara, the Government Delegate in the Region of Murcia, has announced the arrest of one person in the municipality of Torre Pacheco (Murcia) following a night of disturbances that left three minors injured.
“The gathering that broke out around 10:00 p.m. was like two sides, where the Guardia Civil constantly formed a barrier to prevent clashes between them and any further damage,” according to statements by local sources.
That same evening, the delegate declared a large-scale Guardia Civil deployment in the town, supported by the Command’s Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) and the Armed Institute’s Reserve and Security Group (GRS).
Guevara explained in media statements that “throughout the day today,” a presence has been maintained in the municipality, reinforced by the incorporation of USECIC and GRS units, and with “all possible resources and personnel on the way” from the General Directorate of the Guardia Civil in Madrid and the Ministry of the Interior.
“We are very present there with a large Guardia Civil deployment,” the Government Delegate continued in her explanation, noting that there are currently “several groups” engaged in “small clashes” that have been contained due to the presence of officers “equipped with the necessary materials” and that, for the time being, they have not had to intervene beyond restraint to avoid violent situations.
She also stated that Guardia Civil officers police every roadway. She also stated that there are “several open investigations” that are “very advanced,” and that she expects the number of arrests to increase in the coming hours.
Guevara warned of the prevalence of “hate messages” and “incitement to violence” and stated that action is being done to combat them. He further indicated that he is in daily contact with the mayor of the municipality, as well as with the Local Police and the Murcian Government, and is “working to restore normalcy and peace to Torre Pacheco.”
