The National Police and Guardia Civil have arrested a 22-year-old male in Callosa de Segura for allegedly committing six crimes of robbery with violence and intimidation between March and May in the municipality.
According to detectives, the accused individual had a defined method of operation and sought a very specific type of victim. “All of them were elderly women with whom he did not hesitate to use violence,” the National Police said Tuesday.
Prison
The inmate faces six counts of robbery with violence and intimidation. He was taken before the Orihuela Investigative Court, which sentenced him to prison.
A woman’s complaint about assault while standing in her vehicle sparked the investigation in March of last year. The attacker reached through the window, struck her in the face, and stole a gold necklace from her neck.
With violence in the presence of minors
In the following weeks, five more such thefts happened, in which the culprit employed direct violence against the victims—all older women—injuring them in some cases and requiring hospitalisation in others, or acting unscrupulously in front of kids.
The victims’ physical descriptions “were a significant match, which, along with the investigators’ work, analysis of the crime pattern, and coordination between both agencies, allowed for decisive progress.”
Officers in Elche discovered that a person with the given characteristics had sold several pieces of jewellery at a dealership. The item was seized and later recognised “without any doubt by the victims as their property.”
Officers apprehended the offender at Callosa de Segura and discovered six batches of jewellery from the crimes.
Security forces emphasise the importance of prevention and self-protection, particularly among elderly individuals who may be targeted by criminals.
Citizen involvement and attention to specific safety standards are critical for avoiding becoming victims of these crimes.
The Judicial Police Group III of the National Police Force in Elche and the Guardia Civi inquiry area in Callosa de Segura conducted the inquiry.
