Beginning today, Wednesday, July 16, coinciding with the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, patron saint of sailors, the Calpe Police will have a new 6-meter-long semi-rigid boat to expand and improve surveillance and security measures along the municipality’s shore.
With this 40,000-euro acquisition, the Marine Coastal Surveillance Unit is formed, consisting of four police officers who have received specialised training to operate this vessel and perform control and assistance duties at sea.

The new vessel will enable the Police to conduct beach surveillance, hunt for illegal vessels, manage coastal fishing, monitor the use of jet skis, help boats and swimmers in trouble, and undertake rescues and other emergency operations. During the summer, the unit will be operational daily from 10:45 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Previously, the Calpe Police did not have any maritime resources of its own, so this addition represents a step forward in ensuring the safety of inhabitants and visitors, particularly during the summer months, when activity along the coast grows dramatically.
Councillor for Culture and Security Guillermo Sendra commented, “This vessel, along with the four officers, makes up the new Marine Coastal Surveillance Unit, which will allow for comprehensive surveillance and control of the entire municipality of Calp.”
