A 53-year-old man had a heart attack on a street in Santa Pola and was saved by four Local Police officers who performed CPR.
While waiting for the SAMU ambulance, they used a semi-automatic external defibrillator (AED).
The man’s wife hailed the Local Police of Santa Pola for their assistance on social media, stating that “Thanks to them, my husband is still alive and recovering from the heart attack.”
It was little after four a.m. on July 4th. A call reported a collapsed male at the intersection of Calle Espoz y Mina and Palencia, with a woman nearby attempting to revive him.
Two Local Police patrols at a roadblock on Avenida Valencia acted quickly after receiving notification from their transmission centre. The police came around six minutes after the mancollapsed and activated the process for cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
As a result, they activated the defibrillator located in the police van. While waiting for the SAMU medical team to arrive from the Information and Coordination Centre of Emergency Department (CICU), they attempted to revive the victim.
After the SAMU arrived, paramedics quickly performed resuscitation manoeuvres and successfully restored the man’s pulse in five minutes.
The man was taken to the Santa Pola health centre and then to the General Hospital of Elche. He was diagnosed with a heart attack and underwent surgery to remove two blood clots. A double heart catheterisation was also conducted.
