Juan Carlos Valderrama, Valencian Regional Minister for Emergencies and the Interior, met yesterday morning, Thursday July 17th, with Torrevieja Mayor Eduardo Dolón and Councillor for Security and Emergencies Federico Alarcón to discuss a variety of issues.
Juan Carlos Valderrama explained that, in terms of public events and establishments, work is being done to develop a protocol to expedite sanctioning procedures for venues that have a higher problem with noise pollution or that may pose a risk to attendees, such as those with limited capacity.
The mayor and regional minister also spoke about security and emergency preparedness training. In this context, the Generalitat (Catalan Government) will enhance the security training courses offered by the Valencian Institute of Public Security and Emergencies and will also expand ongoing training opportunities. In the fourth quarter of this year, Juan Carlos Valderrama announced the issuance of an Annual Training Plan. As a result, the City Council and the Ministry of Emergencies and the Interior have agreed to work together to conduct these various courses, such as drone management and COMDES network telecommunications skills, which require the ability to operate network terminals at all times, and other aspects such as disaster response. In this regard, the regional minister emphasised the need for civil protection drills, which require extensive preparation for seismic risk drills held annually by the Torrevieja City Council. This process enables the implementation, collaboration, and coordination of several resources in both security and emergency situations.
Regarding the extreme risk warning in effect this weekend, which will begin tomorrow, Friday, Juan Carlos Valderrama has indicated that it is very important for all municipalities and organisations involved in the Valencian Community to be prepared and carry out extreme surveillance of areas at risk of forest fires and that they monitor and restrict activities that could cause a forest fire, such as the use of fireworks.
Finally, the minister praised the Local Police officers for their effective and well-coordinated responses to recent situations, which have been widely publicised in the media. Juan Carlos Valderrama has urged the Spanish government to boost the ratio of Civil Guards and National Police officers in Torrevieja, a largely tourist municipality where the population grows by fivefold during the summer. We need the ratio to be appropriate and at least comparable to the Spanish average.
