Tourists have been frantically searching for essential necessities beneath the Spanish sun after a Ryanair flight from Bristol to Gran Canaria allegedly arrived with no checked baggage.
Travellers on flight FR4757, which took off on Friday, July 18, were perplexed when the pilot announced upon landing that not a single suitcase had been loaded onto the aircraft due to “time constraints” resulting from a security incident at Bristol Airport, leaving them on the island without their belongings.
Among those affected was an 11-person group of Taunton friends who had flown to Maspalomas to celebrate a birthday and graduation.
Madeline Cooper, 22, claimed that everything seemed normal until they reached their location. She remarked, “We had absolutely no problems until we landed.” The skipper then explained that they had made the tough decision not to carry any of our belongings.
“They wouldn’t say what the security issue was – just that every single person’s bag had been left behind.”
The party rapidly realised they were not the only ones impacted. “Today, we were notified that 70 luggage did not travel. “One pram made it across, that’s all,” Madeline explained.
“People didn’t even believe it at first – some thought it was a joke.”
Medicines, contact lenses, cosmetics, and sun protection were among the essential items left behind. Sophie Payne, a member of the group, had severe asthma and was trapped without her medication.
Sophie admitted: “It was quite stressful. I take it twice a day, and it worsens at night. We had to look for a drugstore in an unfamiliar region.”
Initially, Ryanair promised to deliver their bags by Saturday evening to the group currently staying at the Cordial Green Golf Bungalows.
Madeline emphasised her dissatisfaction, saying, “There’s been zero communication.” She also emphasised the airline’s recommendation to use its app, which is inconvenient for some senior passengers who do not have mobile phones.
Their dilemma has already derailed their holiday plans. Madeline described the inconvenience and additional costs they’ve incurred, saying, “We’ve had to pay €60 just to get to a shopping centre and back for clean knickers and essentials,” emphasising the financial hardship on them as students who can’t afford to continually replace their possessions.
With the heat rising and no sunscreen available, Sophie nailed the group’s sentiment: “There are a lot of burnt bodies around here.”
Meanwhile, other angry visitors have gone to social media to air their frustrations. One impacted passenger complained about the lack of suitcases on their journey from Bristol to Gran Canaria, leaving them without critical medication: “Great start to the holiday since Ryanair decided to bring 0 of the baggage from Bristol to Gran Canaria. “No heart medication for me tomorrow.”
Another lamented, “I’m currently in Gran Canaria with no belongings.”
Despite these difficulties, the group is hoping that their bags will arrive in time for their planned activities, which include a birthday celebration, a trip to a water park, and a private boat tour.
Passengers are reminded that medication should NEVER be left in a hold suitcase and should always be carried onboard a flight.
